The closed cycle is the keystone of the project. If we buy the wool from shepherds of our valleys at a fair price, if we train local artisans who can transform from the same territory quality products and if finally making a direct sale from our house, reaching agreater income for the sector, new sources of employment related to land and resources it provides direct revenues and fairer for those who work. Therefore, autonomy, quality and sustainability are the three elements of the philosophy on which the project of Obrador Xisqueta is supported.

A FAIR TRADE

Obrador Xisqueta pays the wool at a price between 0.18 c / kg (cross ewes) and 0.60 c / kg (sheep breed Xisqueta). The association wants to go slowly setting the price and selection criteria for the setting of this wool. Finally we want to give value to the wool, now disused, through two lines: the craft and the use of wool as insulation for bioconstruction.

Obrador Xisqueta started buying wool during the 2009 campaign. In this first year we bought a total of 14,375 kg of wool from 21 farms of Pallars Sobirà, Pallars Jussà, Alta Ribagorça and la Noguera. In 2010 Obrador has purchased 12,616 kg of the same number of farms.

TRANSFORM FROM THE TERRITORY

The association has conducted numerous professional courses and non professional. Hence drawn a total of nine craft of wool, from a total of 11 participating in the project. Those are living in the same area where the wool comes from. They transform the wool into artisanal quality.
