The Obrador Xisqueta's project is twofold. On one hand, pay a fair price for wool of the herds of Xisqueta sheeps because local farmers can afford the price of shearing. The other, to work the use of wool's breed of Xisqueta until recently was considered an endangered breed.

Activities

The activities that the association carries out are focussed in one main action: to buy wool from shepherds in the area (25.000 kilos in two campaigns). This fact initiates a series of activities that are summarised in:

• • Training of artisans and craftsmen;
  • Training wool for all ages;
  • Workshops for schools, civic centers and multipurpose;
  • Buy wool to the shepherds of the area;
  • Creating a collection of products under the brand "Xisqueta";
  • Virtual Store: promotion and sale of craft products;
  • Revaluation of the shepherd's job;

The Association works with 21 sheep farms in the counties of Pallars Sobirà, Pallars Jussà, Alta Ribagorça and la Noguera. These farms are family-based with an average of 400 sheep. All of them are part of the ACOXI: Catalan Association of Sheep Breeders of race Xisqueta.
